On the occasion of the Annual Meeting held in Hamilton, Ontario on December 6th, the CMA Vice President, Holly Ralph, announced the following awards.
AWARDS OF HONOUR
AWARD OF MERIT
(the association’s premier award, given in recognition of exceptional effort or achievement on behalf of the CMA. The award can be given only once)
John Pineo of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia
John is a Life Member of the CMA, has served as a member of the Board of Directors, holding the post of President from 1981-83, and as CMA Atlantic Region Secretary for a number of years.
He was named Honourary President of the CMA and currently serves on Board Committees for Strategic Planning, and for Nominations where he is currently the Chair.
Together with Graham Read, he holds the special ranking of Ambassador for Atlantic Region.
John has represented CMA at the international level for several years. He is a member of the bureau of the FIM Commission for Touring and Leisure (2005 to present) and also holds the position of Secretary for FIM North America, having served previously as Treasurer.
He is a lifetime member of the Apple Valley Riders, serving on the club executive in various capacities and well as being one of the chief organizers of their Bluenose Rally; an event that at various times has been the CMA National Rally and the FIM North America Rally.
John is a dedicated long distance touring rider and also dabbles in dual sport trail riding.
FULVIO CALLIMACI SUPPORTERS AWARDS
(named in memory of a special supporter of CMA in Quebec and awarded to a person or group who has supported or promoted the CMA and motorcycling in an exceptional way)
• Dale Martinsen of Burnaby, British Columbia • Laurence St. Pierre of Agassiz, British Columbia • Hans Wegener of Abbotsford, British Columbia All of these gentlemen have made an enormous contribution to the continued viability of the CMA managed motocross track at Agassiz, BC. Their dedication to performing the tasks of track work, machine maintenance, event refereeing and whatever else is needed keeps us going
• Shane Cuthbertson of Airdrie, Alberta Shane is a Pro CMA competitor, Second Gear Club youth organizer and volunteer, an unlikely combination. Even when competing at the highest level of cross country racing, Shane and his family have always found time to support their local club and its events. He is an example of expertise that the younger Pro’s aspire to emulate and an exceptional teacher and mentor for the young people in the youth programme.
• Gord Goddard of St. George, Ontario Gord is a very gracious landowner who has made his very scenic property available to the Ontario trials organizers for many years. He is always available to help out during the setup of the event, offering great assistance from suggesting different areas for new sections to ideas for modifying existing sections, to cutting the grass in the paddock area and the loop. It is almost impossible to find trials locations in today’s Southern Ontario and Gord is a godsend to our trials community there.
BILLY MATTHEWS MEMORIAL TROPHY
(donated by the Matthews family and awarded to the current rider who demonstrates the qualities of good sportsmanship)
Alex Baumann of Thorsby, Alberta Alex hails from Switzerland where he was a sidecar motocrosser but here in Canada, he has competed in Hare Scrambles, Cross Country and Ice Racing. He loves everything to do with motorcycling and competition but has more than once sacrificed a position to help a fellow rider on the course. Whenever organizers are waiting for the last riders to come in, they always look to see if Alex has checked in yet. If not, they know he is out helping some novice rider back to the pits. He is always the first one to volunteer, never misses an event, shows up with a smile and leaves with one. A credit to his club and to motorcycling.
COMPETITION AWARDS
WHITE MEMORIAL TROPHY (established in 1954) (this is the premier competition award of the CMA and is awarded annually to the most outstanding National Champion, as determined by the Board of Directors)
Jana Ham of White City, Saskatchewan
This is Jana’s second White Trophy as she made history in 2013 by becoming the first woman to win the CMA’s top prize for her performance in mini road racing. In 2015 she has excelled again but also scores another historical first in co-sharing the honour with Tyler Seguin.
Tyler Seguin of Welland, Ontario
This is Tyler’s first White Trophy honour but not his first award winning performance in dirt track as he won the #1 Dirt Track Plate in 2013.
The CMA Directors were not able to agree that one performance was better than the other.
Congratulations to both honourees!
BERT IRWIN MEMORIAL ISDE AWARD
Philippe Chaine of Chesterville, Quebec
Philippe was the performance leader in the CMA 2015 ISDE effort which took place in Kosice, Slovakia.
He earned a Gold Medal and finished 7th in his class. He will be back next year.

John Pineo de Bridgetown, Nouvelle-Ecosse
John est un membre à vie de la CMA, a servi comme membre au Conseil des directeurs, a tenu le poste de président de 1981-83, et secrétaire de la région de l’Atlantique pendant plusieurs années.
Il a été nommé président honoraire de la CMA et est présentement sur le Comité de planification stratégique, et le Comité de nominations où il est le «Chair»
Avec Graham Read, il tient le spécial poste d’ambassadeur pour la région de l’Atlantique.
John a représenté la CMA au niveau international pendant plusieurs années. Il est membre du bureau de la Commission FIM pour Tourisme et plaisirs (de 2005 à maintenant), et tient aussi la position de secrétaire pour FIM Nord Américaine, ayant servi antérieurement comme trésorier.
Il est un membre à vie de Apple Valley Riders, sert sur le club exécutif dans diverses capacités, en plus d’être un des chefs organisateurs du «Blue Nose Rallye», une épreuve qui a été à plusieurs reprises le rallye national de la CMA et le rallye Nord Américain FIM.
John est un ardent enthousiaste de longues randonnées, et participe aussi au «dual et trail» riding.
PRIX SUPPORTEURS FULVIO CALLIMACI
(nommé en la mémoire d’un spécial supporteur de la CMA au Québec, et accordé à une personne ou groupe qui a supporté et promu la CMA et le motocyclisme de façon exceptionelle)

Leur acharnement à performer leurs tâches pour le maintien de la piste, entretien des machines, arbitrage et toutes autres tâches, nous ont aidé à continuer.
• Shane Cuthbertson de Airdrie, Alberta Shane est un compétiteur Pro avec la CMA, jeune organisateur et bénévole, une combinaison qui est rare. Même lorsqu’il compétitionne au niveau professionnel en cross country, Shane et sa famille ont toujours trouvé le temps de supporter leur club local et ses épreuves. Il est un exemple d’expertise que les plus jeunes Pro essaient d’imiter, et un exceptionnel professeur et mentor pour les jeunes dans le «Programme pour les jeunes»
.• Gord Goddard de St. George, Ontario Gord est un très bienveillant propriétaire de terrain qui a laissé sa propriété disponible aux organisateurs de Trials pendant plusieurs années. Il est toujours disponible pour aider lors de l’organisation des épreuves, offrant assistance dans le choix des locations pour de nouvelles sections ou modifications dans les sections déjà existantes et il tond même la pelouse. Il est presque impossible de trouver des lieux pour le Trials dans le sud de l’Ontario et Gord est un envoyé du ciel pour la communauté de Trials.
TROPHEE «BILLY MATTHEWS MEMORIAL»
(donné par la famille Matthews et est remis au coureur qui démontre des qualités de bonne camaraderie (sportsmanship)
Alex Baumann de Thorsby, Alberta Alex est originaire de la Suisse où il était un coureur de Motocross sidecar, mais ici au Canada, il a compétitionné en Hare Scrambles,cross country et courses sur glace. Il adore tout ce qui a trait au motocyclisme et compétition mais il a plus d’une fois sacrifié sa position pour aider un compagnon dans le trouble sur la piste. Chaque fois que les organisateurs attendent que les derniers coureurs atteignent la ligne d’arrivée, ils vérifient toujours pour voir si Alex est déjà arrivé. Si non, ils savent qu’il est en train d’aider un novice à atteindre le puits de ravitaillement. Il est toujours le premier à se porter volontaire, ne manque jamais une épreuve, arrive et quitte avec le sourire. Un atout pour son club et le motocyclisme.
PRIX DE COMPETITION
TROPHEE «WHITE MEMORIAL» (établi en 1954) (c’est le premier prix de compétition de la CMA et décerné annuellement au champion national qui s’est le plus fait remarquer, selon le Conseil des directeurs)
Jana Ham de White City, SaskatchewanC’est la deuxième fois que Jana se mérite le «White Trophy» car elle a fait l’histoire en 2013 en devenant la première femme à gagner le premier prix pour sa performance en mini road racing. En 2015, elle a encore excellé mais marque encore une première dans l’histoire en partageant les honneurs avec Tyler Seguin.
Tyler Seguin de Welland, OntarioC’est le premier «White Trophy» pour Tyler mais pas son premier prix pour sa performance en Terre battue car il s’est mérité la plaque No. 1 en Terre battue en 2013.
Les directeurs de la CMA n’arrivaient pas à s’entendre si une performance était meilleure que l’autre.

PRIX BERT IRWIN MEMORIAL ISDE
Philippe Chaine de Chesterville, QuébecPhilippe était en tête pour sa performance au ISDE CMA 2015, qui s’est déroulé à Kosice, Slovaquie.
Il s’est mérité la médaille d’or et s’est classé 7ème dans sa classe. Il sera de retour l’an prochain.
